Santander Brasil Bank is a subsidiary of Banco Santander in Brazil. It came to Brazil in 1982 with a representative office and nine years later in 1991 started the operations of Santander Investment. Now the Brazilian operation unit corresponds to 50% of the Group’s profit.
In 1997, Santander Group has acquired Banco Geral do Comércio S.A.. The three acquisitions made in subsequent years made the Santander Group earned position among the largest financial companies in Brazil:
– In January 2000 the Group acquired the Spanish Banco Meridional and Banco Bozano, Simonsen.
– In November of the same year, Santander purchased a controlling stake in Banespa.
– In 2008 the Group purchased the operations of the Dutch ABN Amro Bank in Latin America and controlling stake in Banco Real.
Currently, Santander is the third private bank by assets in Brazil and first among international banks. The customer base exceeds 6.7 million. There are 1897 outlets and 7119 ATMs in operation.
